If you aspire to be more than just another student leader, now is your chance to rise above school colors. The application period for the Intra-District Council (IDC) Student Board Member for 2010-2011, which has been since Feb. 10, is closing, with paper applications due March 5 to the ASB office. According to the information sheet, the FUHSD Board of Trustees is looking for a student to "serve as [the] student voice ... for the students at Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Lynbrook, and Monta Vista High Schools... present student activities, achievements...[and] learn about education and policy-making in FUHSD and beyond."
"Being a student sometimes it can be difficult to weigh in on [issues such as budgets and state and municipal taxing]," current Student Board Member senior Christopher Chui said.
The student board member role includes administrative responsibilities such as the the representation of all five FUHSD high schools at board meetings and facilitating networking of all student leaders, in addition to more public relation responsibilities such as attendance at most FUHSD functions as well as publicizing the happenings of the FUHSD Board of Trustees.
All applications go through an identical reviewing process. Initially, each school's respective ASB cabinet and IDC representatives will review their school's applications, select finalists who will be interviewed and then select one candidate to submit to IDC. These candidates will prepare a five-minute presentation of their qualifications for the role for IDC . Finally, IDC will interview all candidates before making their final selection. The selected candidate will serve an internship with Chui, before assuming the position July 1.
